FALL Y SPIRIT 2022

 THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT

We are grateful to Mike’s Carwash, A YMCA Mission Partner, who recently raised $36,214 for the YMCA’s Youth Service Bureau (YSB) through Wash For A Cause on July 15, 16 & 17.

Additionally, over $75,000 was raised at the 9th Annual Sip and Support event on September 29. This event was made possible by many donors including Mike’s Carwash, the Premiere Event Sponsor.

The Youth Service Bureau serves as an advocate for vulnerable youth by providing a variety of services and programs at no charge. Through advocacy, the YSB gives at-risk adolescents the tools, skills and support they need to succeed and grow into thriving adults and community members. We appreciate this support from Mike’s Carwash and the opportunity to work with local organizations to make our community stronger!

YMCA CAMP POTAWOTAMI GOLF OUTING

The 31st annual YMCA Camp Potawotami golf tournament raised more than $31,000 to benefit YMCA Camp Potawotami, the official summer camp of the YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne. The outing, held on September 1st at Pine Valley, featured Premiere Sponsors Ove W. Jorgensen Foundation, Lawrence Construction, Primary Engineering, Source One Solutions and Indiana Signworks. The day was full of sunshine, fellowship and fun while golfers learned how their participation would benefit YMCA Camp Potawotami.

The proceeds from this year’s event will go toward the construction of a new high ropes course. This new course is more accessible, allows more campers to climb at one time, and has elements for both youth and teen campers. “YMCA Camp Potawotami gives campers the opportunity to learn new skills, build confidence and make lasting friendships. We do this through intentional programming focused on a sense of accomplishment and belonging while also teaching positive character traits” said Karen Kasprzak, Executive Director. “I am grateful to the sponsors and teams who participated. Participating in this Golf Outing demonstrates a great commitment to the children in our community,” she added.

WELCOMING WEEK

During this year’s Welcoming Week that took place September 9-18, the YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne joined hundreds of YMCAs and other organizations nationwide hosting events to celebrate immigrant contributions to communities. These events were intended to bring together all residents in a spirit of unity. Welcoming Week activities were FREE and open to the public.

“At the YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne, we believe that our community is stronger when everyone feels welcome and we all work together for the common good,” said Francisco Townsend, Director of Diversity, Inclusion & Global Engagement. “We are proud to be a part of Welcoming Week, which demonstrates that in places large and small, rural and urban, people of all backgrounds are coming together to create stronger communities.

During Welcoming Week, the YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne and its partner organizations hosted activities for hundreds of participants including a Welcome Resources Fair for newcomers and immigrants/refugees, YMCA Global Race Series, Cultural Intelligence Workshop, & Ethnic Bridge Building Discussion.

EMPLOYEE WELLNESS PAYS OFF

Create a culture of health and wellness in your workplace

Healthy lifestyles are difficult to maintain without supportive environments. The YMCA supports and encourages all employers to create a culture of wellness at their workplace. To assist with these efforts, the Y has created an assessment tool to help leaders discover strengths, identify needs, plan for action, and ultimately, build a healthier workforce. The process is an educational experience that will benefit your business regardless of its current stage in wellness development. Following the completion of the assessment, the Y offers a free consultation to discuss results and work together to create an improvement plan. By participating in this process, employers will be able to plan for change strategies, identify and remove barriers, and expand opportunities for healthy living in the workplace.
