THE TEACHER’S ROLE IN THE PRESCHOOL PROGRAM

Teachers will observe preschoolers interacting with the space around them, the materials, and other children to gain a deeper understanding about the children’s individual developmental needs. The teacher will use these observations to plan for the environment and experiences to support unique needs. Teachers will use what the children say or ask to help enhance the children’s knowledge of their personal interests.

Teachers will support the children’s needs for peer relationship by modeling positive social behaviors in their every day interactions with the children and families. Teachers will provide experiences that build a respectful community by fostering classroom discussions and equality amongst all.

Teachers will provide meaningful opportunities for movement, by giving the children work within the classroom that increases coordination, as well as opportunities for large motor play to support physical development.

Teachers will support the children’s need for learning and increased knowledge by providing materials for investigation and fostering inquisitive thinking.
